Wella
global giant

Everyone, everywhere has heard of Wella, one of the world leaders in hairstyling products for over 50 years.

Established in 1880, this small family run German company started as a manufacturer of fine wigs and toupees, gradually shifting to professional salon styling appliances and products. Wella has since grown to incorporate beauty, cosmetics and perfume.

Thanks to an active research and development department, Wella has managed to change and grow with the times, ensuring its place as a global leader in an highly competative industry.
• In 1927 wella's first perming appliance takes salons by storm
• By the end of the 1930's Wella is sold throughout Eurpoe and the United States.
• In 1968 Wella is chosen for the first time as exclusive supplier to the Olympic Games in Mexico.
• In 1976 Wella researchers discover Chitosan, an ingredient important for haircare products that significantly improves combing and hold.

As a hair and beauty expert, Wella is able to help people feel better about themselves every day. It’s a challenging task that today over 18,000 dedicated employees in 167 subsidiaries work on around the clock.

Wella is one of the world’s leading cosmetics suppliers. Founded in 1880, the company is represented in over 150 countries. This gives the beauty specialist enterprise the market presence and customer partnership necessary for success and growth on all the relevant markets. Wella distributes, manufactures and carries out research around the globe, across all borders and regions.
Global brands, employee mobility and international presence form the basis of a global company philosophy, and the company’s three business divisions - Professional, Consumer, Cosmetics and Fragrances - are exclusivly dedicated to the cosmetics area.

Wella is a company that carries out extensive research. The group’s tremendous growth is primarily attributable to the continual development and maintenance of its outstanding products. Wella researchers discovered the revitalising properties of natural raw materials like Chitosan and fruit waxes, and adapted them to hair care. Their first hair care product with liquid Keratin molecules set new directions in haircare, and in the 50s, their cream-based haircolor 'Koleston' was the first to combine hair coloring with hair care. The original perming device of the 30s was also developed by Wella – and these are just some of the haircosmetic milestones to spring from Wella’s labs.
